 Happy Halloween!

 Today was a chill day for the post part. We did a kahoot reviewing The Life You Save May Be Your Own. I did good on the kahoot and came in 5th place. I won’t be here tomorrow but I know I will do good on the test for this story. 

 Today

We finished the story “The Life You Save May Be Your Own”. The story left me wondering. I don’t really understand the plot or the ending. They incorporated the tittle into the end of the story but that didn’t clear up any of the confusion. I believe we’re gonna analyze and talk about the story in class tomorrow and I can’t wait until I can full understand the meaning of this story. 

 Today we began reading the story “The Life You Save May Be Your Own”. I like that we using our papers help us analyze and understand the story. We wrote down important characters, unfamiliar words, important quotes, key events, and questions. Though the story is questionable at time overall it’s a pretty good story. 

We took a test today and we had to use the tools we had learned this week. For the most part the test was pretty easy. All we really had to do was use the passage to answer a few easy/medium level questions. I believe I did a great job on the test, just based off how confident I felt while doing it, but only time will tell. 

 Today we read a passage on avatars and virtual reality. This type of stuff is very interesting to me. I love to learn new things, especially when it will eventually play a big part in our world. We were also given a question after we read the passage where we had to use the citing skills we had recently learned. 

 Today we furthered with the lesson of analyzing and citing textual evidence. We wrote an argumentative summary using a passage we read. We also made a claim based off themes  we got from the article. The summary must have a claim, evidence, explanation for that evidence, and a conclusion. 

 Today we analyzed a text and answer question on it like we did yesterday. I feel like this practice is helping me to improve my skills. We also began getting vocabulary words. Personally, I like vocabulary words, they allow you to broaden your vocabulary and write more efficiently.

 In class today, we practiced analyzing and citing evidence from a text. We use evidence from the passage to thoroughly answer questions. There are three way to cite evidence; summarizing, paraphrase, and direct quoting. I feel like i know how to effectively use these methods. 

 In class today we did the 2nd benchmark test. Though I wasn’t able to finish I know I put lots of effort into it. The test was really just analyzing different texts and answering questions about them. This is something I’m familiar with because we do it in class very often. 

  In class today we read and analyze the poem Birches by Robert Frost. Personally, I believe the poem was good and show a very inspiring message. One message this poem expressed was don’t revert to doing back thing when you want to get away. When I say “bad things” I’m referring to suicide and/or drugs. When you want to get away go back to a carefree (childhood) time in your life. 

 Today I wasn’t in class. I had a family emergency so I left super early in the school day. I assume that today y’all went over another poem. 

 In class today we discussed some advice we have gotten from a parent. Some great advice I got from my mom was don’t give up in the hard times, because it always gets better. We also read a poem where the mother was also giving advice. In this poem she expressed that life is not hard but it is difficult. 

  In class today we read our poems. Our poems were about our dreams. My classmates had some amazing poems. The poem gave me insight on my peer dreams and aspirations. I was surprised by how well written they were. I feel good about my poem and the way I presented it.  

 

  In class today, we started working on our poems. One had to be about your dream and the other about family advice. It was a very thought provoking assignment. Personally I feel like I completed this assignment effectively and followed the directions given.  

  In class, we watch part or the movie fences. The cast was full of some of the best actors. Viola Davis really brought like to the Rose character. The film was exactly like the play. It was some amazing acting overall.  

In class we finished the book “Fences”. Overall the book was pretty good but I didn’t like the ending very much. The end definitely could have been better. I feel like they only touch the surface with the resolution that they put into the ending. I would have loved to see Troy and Cory mend their relationship. Also I would’ve like to see Lyons step up and take responsibilities. Furthermore, seeing Raynell and how much she grew into a respectable young girl was a cute scene.
